I think this is Grandma Peterson's recipe so it is over 100 years old. This is the best strawberry shortcake recipe, it is so flavorful and moist and is so easy to make! Top with real whipped cream and fresh strawberries crushed with a potato masher and sweetened with a little sugar.

You can double this recipe and bake it in a 9" round pan and layer it with whipped cream and strawberries if you want an extra special cake.

Yields1 Serving
 1 ½ cups flour
 ½ cup sugar
 2 tsp baking powder
  cup butter
 pinch of salt
 1 egg
 milksee directions for amount (less than 1 cup)

Mix dry ingredients, cut butter into dry ingredients.

In a liquid measuring cup, beat one egg and leave it in the cup, then fill the measuring cup up to the the 1 cup marker line. It will be a total measurement of 1cup of milk/egg mixture. Pour into dry ingredients and mix until just moistened. Pour into a greased 8x8 pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes.
